What is Care for a Carer?
Care for a Carer is a community awareness campaign. We want to let the wider public know who carers are and what they do to care for someone else. At the same time, we hope to build your understanding about how you could show your neighbour, friend, family member you care.
1 in 10 people in NSW are carers so we think it is pretty important they know we care!
To show you care it is as easy as:
Use social media to raise awareness of carers – share positive news stories and encourage the carers you know to tell their own story
Acknowledge their role as a carer – tell them you see what they do and how that helps someone else
Be supportive — let them know if they need anything it’s okay to ask
Don’t just drive past — if you know a carer and you can drive them somewhere local, offer to do it
Organise a community fundraiser and then host an event for local carers
Be understanding — don't stare or look away, especially if the person they care for is acting out
Say “hi” or “how are you?” — if your neighbour is a carer, it could be the first and only time they’ll speak to anyone all day
